myUSCIS Online Account 2026: How to Set It Up and What You Can Actually Do
Step-by-step guide to creating a myUSCIS account, linking your case with the receipt number and online access code, and using it to file forms, respond to RFEs, and check status.

The myUSCIS portal is the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services online dashboard for applicants. In 2026 it lets you:
- File certain forms entirely online (with the online filing discount).
- Pay government fees online.
- Receive electronic notices.
- Check case status.
- Respond to Requests for Evidence on supported forms.
- Manage representative access (G-28 / G-1145).
Here’s how to set it up and link your case.
Creating an account
- Go to my.uscis.gov and choose Sign Up / Create Account.
- Choose Applicant / Petitioner / Requester account (most people).
- Verify your email and choose two-factor authentication (text or app).
- Set up password recovery questions.
Tip: keep your login credentials private. Never share the password with people offering to help — even people who claim to be your preparer or attorney.
Linking an existing paper case
If your case was filed on paper, link it to your account using:
- Your receipt number (starts with three letters: MSC, EAC, NBC, IOE, etc.).
- Your Online Access Code (OAC) — printed on a USCIS notice (often the I-797C).
Steps:
- Sign in to myUSCIS.
- Click Add a paper-filed case.
- Enter the receipt number and OAC.
- Confirm — the case appears in your dashboard.
If you don’t have an OAC, USCIS will mail one when one of the forms in your packet generates online access (usually at receipt or biometrics scheduling).
Filing forms entirely online
In 2026 you can file these forms 100% online:
- I-130 Petition for Alien Relative
- I-90 Replace / Renew Green Card
- I-129F K-1 Petition
- I-131A Returning Resident Travel Document
- I-539 Change / Extend Nonimmigrant Status (most categories)
- I-765 Work Permit (most categories)
- I-821 Temporary Protected Status
- I-821D DACA Renewal (subject to current policy)
- N-336 Hearing Naturalization Decision
- N-400 Naturalization
- N-565 Replacement Naturalization Certificate

When myUSCIS does not show your case
Common reasons:
- The case was filed before USCIS digitized that form type.
- The receipt number was typed wrong.
- You used the wrong online access code.
- Your name on the form doesn’t exactly match your account name.
If something looks wrong, you can call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283.
Privacy and account hygiene
- Use a personal email address you control long-term — not work or family email.
- Enable two-factor authentication.
- Don’t use one shared family account for multiple cases — each applicant should have their own.
- Save copies of every notice you download. USCIS keeps them but redundancy helps.
