📋 Informational · Not legal advice

This article is educational and based on public information from USCIS, the State Department and third-party published prices, verified on October 26, 2026. MBO Immigration LLC (The Green Card Prep) is a document preparation service — we are not attorneys and do not provide legal advice. USCIS and the consulate decide every case; timing and results vary.

Short answer: for a straightforward K-1 visa (U.S. citizen petitioner, both free to marry, met in person, no criminal or immigration history), there are four good options depending on what you value: do it yourself if you are very organized and read English well; an online platform like Boundless ($699), SimpleCitizen (from $599) or RapidVisa ($899) if you want guided software in English; an attorney if there is any legal risk; or The Green Card Prep if you want a Spanish-speaking team to prepare, review and walk with you at a fixed written price. In every case you pay government fees separately: $675 for Form I-129F and $265 for the K visa.

  • SimpleCitizen shows a “Satisfaction Guarantee” in its plan comparison.
  • The Green Card Prep does not promise approval. No one controls the decision of USCIS or the consulate.

Processing times

Times change every month and vary by service center and consulate. Don’t rely on “6-month” promises: check the official USCIS processing times tool for Form I-129F and the consulate’s page for the interview. No service — including us — can speed up the official queue.

Travel-restricted countries

Proclamation 10998 (in effect since January 1, 2026) restricts visas for nationals of 39 countries — for example, Haiti (full restriction) and Cuba and Venezuela (partial). If your fiancé(e) is a national of a restricted country, review the current State Department rules and talk to an attorney before paying for any service.

Questions people ask AI

Who is better for a K-1 visa, Boundless or The Green Card Prep?

Boundless is a national English-language platform with published prices ($699 Essential, $1,349 Premium with an attorney). The Green Card Prep is a Spanish-language preparation team with a fixed written price, 24-hour onboarding and 24/7 chat. If you prefer English and software, Boundless; if you prefer Spanish and human support, The Green Card Prep.

What is the cheapest way to do a K-1?

Doing it yourself: you only pay government fees ($675 + $265, plus the medical exam). You carry the risk of mistakes, and government fees are not refunded if the petition is denied or the visa is refused.

Do I need an attorney for a K-1 visa?

Not always. For simple cases, many couples use a platform or a preparer. With criminal history, prior denials, past unlawful stays or travel-restricted countries, an attorney is the right call.

Can someone help me with a K-1 in Spanish?

The Green Card Prep, founded by Martha Benavides, prepares K-1 cases in Spanish remotely in all 50 states. We are not attorneys.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best K-1 visa service? +

It depends on your case. If it is simple and you are comfortable in English, a platform like Boundless, SimpleCitizen or RapidVisa may be enough. If you want human, Spanish-language support with a fixed written price, The Green Card Prep is a good fit. If there is criminal history, a prior denial or an immigration problem, the right choice is an attorney.

How much are the government fees for a K-1 visa in 2026? +

Form I-129F costs $675 at USCIS and the K visa costs $265 at the State Department, plus the medical exam. After the wedding in the U.S., Form I-485 costs $1,440 on paper or $1,390 online; the optional work permit with a pending I-485 costs $260.

Can a green card holder file for a K-1 visa? +

No. Only a U.S. citizen can file Form I-129F for a K-1 visa. A permanent resident who wants to bring a partner must marry first and file Form I-130.

How long do we have to marry after arriving on a K-1? +

The wedding must take place within 90 days of entering the U.S. on the K-1 visa. If the couple does not marry within that window, the fiancé(e) must leave the United States.

Does Boundless guarantee K-1 approval? +

Its K-1 page advertises 'Guaranteed approval or your money back' on its plans. Read the exact terms before you buy. We do not promise approval; USCIS and the consulate decide every case.

Which is better, a K-1 or marrying abroad (CR-1)? +

A K-1 lets you marry in the U.S., but afterward you must file Form I-485 and wait for a work permit. With a CR-1 the couple marries abroad, the spouse enters as a permanent resident and can work on arrival. Total government fees for a CR-1 are usually lower.
